ART OF THE DAY

KOI Acrylic on Canvas 2010

Philadelphia

I've been working on a painting of Philadelphia for a couple weeks now. It's been a slow pace. I'm not sure if it's the size of the canvas vs. the level of detail or the all beige and grey tones, but I'll be glad to get the stage where I'm putting in whites and shipping it of to the client in... wait for it... Philadelphia.

Here are the palettes:

Philadelphia 2.

I hope to be done this week but at this rate it'll like not get done until mid next week.

ART OF THE DAY

BIRCH 48"x48" Acrylic on canvas, 2009

I worked on BIRCH between other projects. It was originally set to have a colour palette with darker colours, but as things went on more and more white covered the surface. Working generally with bright colours, this piece was challenging in that it has so little colour in it and again, with acrylics the dry colour was never the same as the wet colour. Lastly, being able to see where I was painting was challenging at first so I started with a dark blue canvas so I could see where the white was going. The surface also has a rise to it so some squares actually stand out from the surface catching light when lit from one side.
